El examen oficial del Capitán de Yate tiene 40 preguntas en cuatro materias (Teoría de la Navegación, Cálculo de la Navegación —incluida la astronómica—, Meteorología e Inglés); se aprueba con 28 aciertos, con bloques eliminatorios en Teoría de la Navegación (máx. 5 fallos) y Cálculo de la Navegación (máx. 4).
