The Patrón de Navegación Básica qualifies you for motorised vessels up to 8 metres and 5 miles from the coast. Prepare for it with theory, tests, and simulations identical to the exam.

What does the PNB allow you?

The PNB qualifies you to command motorised recreational vessels up to 8 metres in length, during the day and up to 5 miles from the coast. It is a good starting point if you want to progress to the PER later.

The exam

The official exam for the PNB has 27 multiple-choice questions; it is passed with 17 correct answers and there are two eliminatory blocks: buoyage (maximum 2 failures) and RIPA (maximum 5). At ExamiNáutica, you practice with identical simulations and the entire question bank.

About the PNB

How many questions are there in the PNB exam? +

What is the difference between the PNB and the PER? +

The PNB covers up to 8 metres and 5 miles; the PER covers up to 15 metres and 12 miles, and also allows navigation between the Balearic Islands and Canary Islands. Much of the syllabus is common.

Do I need a radio licence? +

To use the VHF/DSC radio on board, it is recommended to have the radio certificate for PNB, which you can also prepare at ExamiNáutica.
